Resistors for Tube Radios and Tube Electronics
JustRadios sells high quality resistors and capacitors for tube radios and tube based electronics. We carry 1/2 watt, 1 watt, 2 watt, 5 watt and 10 watt resistors for tube radios, amplifiers, TVs, HAM gear, juke-boxes, etc. Our resistor line includes carbon composition resistors, metal oxide resistors, metal film resistors, carbon film resistors, metal glaze resistors and power resistors (wire wound and metal oxide). All resistors have been especially chosen for tube electronic circuits. All resistors are high voltage "normal body size" type. We do not stock cheap low voltage "small body type" resistors. For added safety, all of our metal oxide resistors, carbon film resistors, metal glaze resistors and power resistors are flame proof type. All resistors (including the carbon composition type) are brand new poduction. We do not carry NOS (New Old Stock) resistors. We sell only high quality, new "factory fresh" resistors.
Are all resistors created equal? When it comes to resistors for tube radios and tube based electronics, all resistors are not created equal. Unlike transistor based electronics, tube electronics (tube radios, tube amplifiers, tube televisions, tube jukeboxes, tube ham gear etc.) require resistors that can handle high voltages and withstand very high temperatures. Resistors that are suitable for transistor radios may not be suitable for use in your tube electronics. When selecting resistors for tube based electronics....in addition to getting the correct ohm value and wattage.....it is important that the resistors have a voltage rating that is high enough. The original carbon composition resistors in your tube radio most likely had a working voltage rating of 350 Volts. When replacing old carbon composition resistors, it is important that they be replaced with resistors that have a working voltage equal to or higher than the original resistors. If lower voltage resistors are used....there is the risk of failure. Many modern day 1/2W resistors made of metal oxide, carbon film, metal film, etc are rated at "less" than the required 350 volts. Also, almost all types of resistors manufactured now-a-days are manufactured with either "small" size bodies or "normal" size bodies. Cheaper "small" body type resistors have a lower working voltage than their "normal" body size counterpart. The "small" body type resistors (which are almost always rated at less than 350 volts) are fine for most transistor radios....but they can not handle 350V. "Small" body resistors are way cheaper (half the price) of "normal" body type....but as the saying goes..."you get what you pay for". If you are restoring tube based electronics "small" body type resistors should be avoided.
Many traditionalists like to replace their old off-spec carbon composition resistors with new carbon composition resistors.
If you replace old 1/2 watt carbon comp resistors with modern day resistors, be sure that they are "normal" body type and are rated at 350 volts or higher. To "play it safe" many enthusiasts that repair/restore/build tube radios and electronics replace 1/2W carbon composition resistors with modern day 1 watt "flame proof" resistors....a practical choice.
In addition to the body size dilemma, the length of resistors has recently changed. Almost all manufacturers are now making resistors shorter than they used to. Shorter resistors are now the “new standard”. A few manufacturers will still make resistors with the longer leads of yesterday (but are special order at extra cost). As the saying goes …”you get what you pay for”. When ordering resistors make sure your 1 Watt resistors are over 2 ½ inches and 2 Watt resistors are over 3 inches.

Resistor Type and Construction |
Resistor Features and Specifications |
Premium
RCD of New Hampshire, USA has been committed to quality for over 40 years. RCD Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility are at Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. Additional RCD products are produced in Europe, the Caribbean and Asia.
These brand new factory fresh RCD carbon composition resistors feature rugged hot molded construction. The resistance material, insulation material and lead wires are all hot molded together at the same time into one solid integrated resister. The result of this hot molded construction is a resistor that is mechanically strong without any cracks or crevices that could adversely affect performance. Total length of each resistor is 60mm (2 1/2") with body size 3.56mm by 9.53mm. 100% non-inductive construction for pure resistance. |

KAMAYA OHM
"The Classic Resistor" for Tube Radios & Electronics
Ruggedly constructed, these brand new carbon composition resistors are made by mixing particles of carbon graphite powder with a binder which is molded and baked into the traditional cylinder shape of carbon comp resistors. Total length of each resistor is 62mm (aprox 2 1/2" long) with body size 3.5mm by 9mm. Non-inductive construction. |

Metal Film Resistors "The Precision Resistor"
Constructed of a resistive element of a very thin layer of metal alloy vacuum deposited on a high-thermal conductive ceramic rod. The technology is able to support accurate characteristics over a broad resistance range. Solder plated copper lead wires for easy soldering. Length of each resistor is 60mm (2 1/2") with body size 3.2mm by 9mm. |
|
Metal Oxide Resistors (Flame Proof) High reliability. High Stability. Flame Proof Coating.
Resistance element is formed by the oxidation reaction of a vapor or spray of tin chloride or tin-oxide film over a high thermal conductive rod. A flame proof coating is then applied.
Total length of each 1 watt resistor is 70mm (over 2 1/2") with body size 4.2mm by 11mm. Total length of each 2W resistor is 80mm (over 3") with body size 5mm by 15mm.

Flame Proof Carbon Film Resistors
Superior Heat resistance. Superior high voltage capabilities. Constructed by vacuum depositing a thin film of carbon over a high thermal conductive ceramic rod. Flame proof coating applied. Total length of each 1 watt resistor is 70mm (over 2 1/2") with body size 4.2mm by 11mm. Total length of each 2 resistor is 80mm (over 3") with body size 5mm by 15mm. |
|
Flame Proof Metal Glaze Extra High Ohms. Extra High Voltage These flame proof metal glaze resistors are constructed of a special metal glaze which is a combination of glass and metal that is capable of withstanding very high voltages. This type of capacitor is available at higher ohm values that other types of resistors. Total length of each 1 watt resistor is 70mm (over 2 1/2") with body size 4.2mm by 11mm. |
|
Power Resistors (Flame Proof) High Wattage Resistors for use in Power Supply Circuits 5 watt resistors up to 180 ohms and 10 watt resistors up to 470 ohms are wirewound. Higher resistance sizes are made of metal oxide. Metal oxide type is made by depositing a tin oxide on a substrate, resulting in good stability. Wire wound type is constructed by wrapping lengths of high resistance wire over an insulated form.
Both types are encased in ceramic (a special type of cement) that is heat and moisture resistant. |
