At last…the best of two worlds…a spaghetti tubing that looks like the varnished braided spaghetti tubing of yesteryear originally used in your 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s radios ….but a spaghetti tubing that is new production and made to today’s standards to meet and surpass modern day electrical safety concerns. And talk about safety performance….is has an operating temperature of -55C to +200C and a voltage rating of 4000 volts! RoHS compliant and UL approved of course. This tubing is made of a closely woven electrical grade inner fibreglass sleeve coated with an electrical grade braided silicone rubber. This spaghetti tubing has excellent electrical, chemical and oil resistance properties, excellent heat stability and super flexibility for ease of push-up and recovery. It has excellent resistance to oils, acids and alkalis and solvents. Although we carry this spaghetti for use in vintage hand wired tube electronics, this tubing is compatible with virtually all electrical grade insulating varnishes and impregnation systems making it ideally suited for leads and crossovers in fractional and integral horsepower motors, dry or oil filled, transformers generators, welding apparatus, relays and moisture sensitive equipment. Yes, this same tubing is used extensively in consumer appliances, light fixtures, stove, oven and furnace controls as well as relays, breaker panels, switchgear and other commercial and industrial equipment where high electrical performance and superior resistance to mechanical and environmental wear is required. Although the natural color (most commonly seen) of this tubing is white we also carry this braided spaghetti in hard to find/custom colors black, red, yellow, green, grey, blue, purple and brown…so that you can give your vintage restorations a truly professional look. Using the appropriate colors also makes repairs and trouble shooting easier. The tubing we carry comes in a variety of diameters, namely; 1/16 inch, 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. The 1/16” is the perfect size for insulating capacitor and resistor leads. For various repairs and bundling wires 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" diameter is often required. The original rubber that coated the wires in your vintage radio is by now very often cracked and falling apart. This can result in short circuits which are dangerous and will put your radio out of commission. Replacing this disintegrating wire is a monumental task which can be avoided by simply slipping 1/8" size Silicone-Rubber Sleeving over the original wiring. |
